Welcome to the 2025-26 school year! We hope you are as excited as we are for the learning ahead.
This year, we will welcome more than 60,000 students across our 136 schools. Tomorrow and the days to come will be busy and packed with new experiences for staff and student alike.
Important information
- Looking for schedule or class information? PowerSchool Parent Portal will open to families today, September 3, at 3 p.m.
- The first day of school is tomorrow, September 4.
- If you haven’t already, you will hear from your child(ren)’s school before the first day with school-specific information.
- Please make sure to note all other important dates in our school calendar, which can be found here.
- It’s important that all students have the tools they need to learn and succeed. If your child(ren) need supplies, they will be provided. Please reach out to your school for confidential support.
- If your child takes the bus, review their bus stop times and locations through the BusPlanner Parent Portal. If you have any questions, contact HRCE’s Transportation Team at transportation@hrce.ca or 902-431-4723.
- All HRCE students in Grades 7 to 12, regardless of HRCE transportation eligibility, will receive a free Halifax Transit pass this school year. You can find answers to common questions here. Students eligible for HRCE transportation are still able to ride the school bus. If you do not want your child to receive a pass, please connect with your Principal. Please note: 2024-25 passes are valid until September 12, 2025.
Please be patient during the first few weeks as we develop new routines. There may be adjustments to classes to accommodate new registrations and meet class cap guidelines by the end of September.
Something new
HRCE is dedicated to ensuring the safety, privacy, and well-being of its community. After gathering feedback from families, students, staff, and the community in the spring, we have changed how staff contact information is displayed online due to growing concerns about cyber security and privacy.
Staff directories are no longer listed on school websites. Going forward, you can access teacher and staff contact information in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Click here for instructions on how to find this information in PowerSchool. More information can also be found by logging in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and clicking “Parent Tutorial.” As always, families can reach out to the school directly any time.
